Ask any painter who's worked both sides of the country and they'll tell you: Cape Town punishes paint in ways Gauteng never does. It's not just the sun — it's the combination. Southeaster gusts strip loose material off a facade before it's even had time to fail properly. Salt carried in off the Atlantic works into masonry near the coast and keeps working long after the paint job is "done." And a wall that gets baked all afternoon on the north side of a City Bowl house is a completely different surface to prep than the same wall three doors down in permanent shade.
We price the actual wall in front of us — the exposure, the surface condition, the access.
What changes the quote: a Sea Point or Camps Bay exterior gets a different prep spec than an inland Durbanville home — more filler, an extra primer coat, sometimes a full scrape-back where salt has already lifted the old coating. A Victorian or Edwardian home in the City Bowl or Southern Suburbs often has lime plaster underneath later layers of modern paint, and painting over it wrong traps moisture and blisters within a year — we check what's actually on the wall before we quote. And if you're in a sectional title block, we get the body corporate's approved colour scheme confirmed before ordering a drop of paint, so there's no repaint because someone picked the wrong shade of white.
What doesn't change, wherever you are: Plascon and Dulux only — nothing unbranded, nothing "just as good." Full prep before any paint goes on. Two coats minimum. A written quote before we start and a signed 2-year workmanship warranty when we finish. CIPC: 2025/257893/07 — look it up yourself at cipc.co.za before you decide anything.
City Bowl to the Helderberg, Atlantic Seaboard to the Winelands — different walls, same standard, same paperwork every time.
